Remodel, addition and rewiring in Omaha

A remodel is the cheapest time to fix a home's wiring, because the walls are open. Kitchens and bathrooms in particular need more circuits and more protection than they did a few decades ago. Rewiring a whole house is a bigger job, usually prompted by knob-and-tube wiring, ungrounded circuits, or aluminum branch wiring from the 1960s and 70s, and it can often be done through small openings rather than by gutting the walls.

Remodel & Addition Wiring

Signs you may need remodel, addition and rewiring

  • You're planning a kitchen, bathroom, basement or addition
  • Knob-and-tube wiring, cloth-insulated wire, or two-prong outlets throughout
  • Aluminum branch wiring noted in an inspection
  • An insurer asking about the home's wiring before writing a policy
  • Too few outlets and circuits for how the home is used now

What affects the price

Every home is different. These are the biggest factors in the price:

  • The size of the space and the number of circuits
  • Open walls during a remodel versus fishing wire through finished walls
  • Plaster walls, which take longer to work through than drywall
  • Whether the panel needs upgrading to carry the new load
  • Wall patching after rewiring, and permit and inspection fees
